Penguino's Ice Cream in Sunnyvale

A short, sweet post for the weekend.

If you...

a) are an ice cream fan...
b) like Mitchell's super creamy scoops, but...
c) live in the south bay and don't want to drive 40 miles for such creamy goodness...

...then I have found the cure for what ails ya. It's "Penguino's" at the corner of Wolfe and Reed.

I noticed this place a few months ago, but had never stopped. But we had a craving, and decided to try it. The service was super-friendly -- if a bit distracted -- and very generous with the samples.

We went with a double scoop of mango and "macapuno", which if you haven't had, is a super soft and sweet coconut. (I think the word is Tagalog?) Both were extremely creamy without being overly sweet (i.e. like Stone Cold Creamery). The mango unfortunately had some freezer burn crunchiness, but nice chunky mango bits. The macapuno was freaking awesome.

And it's pretty cheap: $3.50 for two scoops that were nearly a pint in volume.

I wish I'd known about this place during last year's freakish 105 heat wave.
