Ah, hopefully you're all just finishing up the sour notes of mid-April tax season -- Just in time for this breaking story about Samsung's chairman getting nailed for tax evasion.

How much did he have squirreled away?

[the prosecutor] said his team discovered 4.5 trillion won, or $4.54 billion, in hidden funds Lee kept in accounts held by his aides...Lee, however, did not pay at least 112.8 billion won in taxes on the profits from those stock accounts, Cho said.

That's over $100,000,000 in unpaid taxes. A hundo.

But the best part?

Cho accused Lee and his aides of committing a "grave crime," but said that he decided not to arrest them partly because they admitted to the wrongdoing and because their arrests would seriously disrupt the management of Samsung, which accounts for one-fifth of the country's total exports, and endanger the national economy.

Talk about your "get out of jail free" cards. Wowzers.

Ye Olde Photo Time Machine

Here is a cool site making the rounds among shutter bugs that converts your digital pics to old newspaper clipping like images. (It's in Japanese, but there are only three buttons, so you should be able to figure it out pretty easily)

Some quick experiments below. Seems to work best with high contrast pics (since it's converting to monochrome) and people as subjects:
